We enjoyed a fabulous vacation in Savannah last weekend! It was so nice to be able to go somewhere together and have no schedule or agenda. Don't get me wrong, we LOVE to go home and see everyone, but the truth is that when we do that, we sometimes feel like we need a mini-vacation when we get back. Brad has been extremely stressed out with work lately, so a leisurely trip was just what the doctor ordered! We had plenty of time to talk and I feel like we came back refreshed, renewed, and relying on God for our future.
The beauty of this trip was that we had a fantastic time despite the fact that it was certainly not one for the travel channel! In fact, we spent a great deal of time cracking up at the city and the circumstances, so I thought I'd share just a few:
- We were mesmerized by how many monuments they could fit into a relatively small space. In fact, I had to look it up when we came back: 6 fountains and 18 monuments/statues. We're pretty sure they're in the beginning stages of erecting a statue in honor of our visit. I think I'll look great in bronze ;-)
- It was 100 degrees (heat index 113) and it was PACKED with tourists. I had no idea that the city was such a hot spot for tourism...funny how the pictures on websites and brochures depict people lazily walking through the various parks alone--those certainly were not taken in the summer!
- Juliette Gordon Low--wow. Okay, so I know that the Girl Scouts is a great organization, but seriously...two stops on the tour AND a federal building?
- We were itching for some great seafood since we don't find a lot of it inland. So, we went to River Street and sought out a small seafood place (we're big fans of mom and pop establishments). Pretty sure we had grouper's cousin: I knew we should have asked for that DNA test!
- We finally found a good place to take a fun picture...and the camera's batteries were dead! (Way to plan ahead there, Jen)!
- Saturday night I decided to forget trying to make Savannah work for us and go to my happy place: the beach! So, we drove to Tybee Island. Long story short: Miley Cyrus was filming and the place was swarming with tweens!
All joking and 'complaints' aside, we had a wonderful time and thought the city was among the most beautiful we'd ever seen! Now it's back to the grind for Brad (please pray for his work situation) and time to prepare for a cruise with my mom, sister, and cousin Melanie for me!
