Will

Let's be honest: It is easy to talk about "God's Will" when you know that you are in it. Benny Tate, our phenomenal pastor, talks about how he gives his daughter guidelines about her present and her future. He says that he always wants his daughter to know his plan for her and her life: he never wants his expectations or desires to be secret. He goes on to discuss how we are God's children and He doesn't want to keep secrets from us either. It's not necessary to have a decoder ring to figure out the desires of God's heart for our lives. How much more does He care about us than an earthly father cares about his own child? This was made clear in my life regarding employment. I knew when I was in God's will and I knew when I wasn't. But, it just doesn't always seem that 'cut and dry' in all instances.

As you may remember from a previous post, Brad has hated his place of employment for quite some time. Well, on Friday he (along with several other workers) was 'hopefully temporarily' laid off. We view this as a blessing in disguise in a way: he was so miserable and unsatisfied. But, now the difficult questions arise: what is his purpose in employment? What is God's will for his career? Brad is an amazing problem solver, a smart worker, and has a lot to offer. He will make a fantastic employee somewhere...but where?

I'm sorry that there isn't an exciting end to this post. The truth is that we just don't know at this point. We don't know what tomorrow holds or whether a job...any job...will become available in the next few days, weeks, or months. So, we are simply bathing the entire situation in prayer, trusting God for guidance and those oft-discussed "doors" to be opened/shut as appropriate.
