Valentine's Day...

I have never liked Valentine's Day. I often joke that it's because I was a total commitment-phobe growing up so I never had a Valentine and this is just residual bitterness.  But, it really isn't that deep...I just don't like it. In fact, I think it's absurd. If you need to take one day just to tell someone that you love him, then you probably don't love him. Or, if you do, you should really think about it the other 364 days. A card on Valentines Day means nothing to me, but a card on a random Thursday in April means the world. Flowers on Valentines Day take absolutely no thought, but flowers after a hard day at work let her know you listen and care (Brad knows, however, that flowers are never a good gift for me no matter what the day was like at work...I'm too practical for that)! I don't want a gooshy card with overpriced chocolates (and certainly not cheap chocolates) or flowers that will just die. I don't want Brad to spend our hard-earned money on a quick trip to the store where he waits in line with all the other husbands that are fulfilling their obligations.

I have had many, many, MANY people (women) over the years argue with me that Valentine's Day is a day of celebration of their love. I will never fault people for wanting to celebrate V Day.  If you enjoy it, have fun!  Have a great night with the love of your life (and be sure to make reservations)!  It's just not for me (and thankfully, Brad doesn't care).
