Free to Be Me!

I have some news that may be shocking to you: I'm not perfect. That's right, folks! I have flaws. Okay, now I will give you a few moments to let that sink in and to compose yourself......................

So I can tell by the smile that I have imagined on your face that my newsflash wasn't really news to you at all. Of course not, you know me! The beauty of my God is that He knows me too. In fact, He knows me better than you do...better than I do (I mean, there's no way I can tell you how many hairs are on my head. I cannot even estimate how many there are--terrible estimation skills, just one of those many flaws). God knows me and loves me for who I am. I don't have to pretend to be someone else or something else. I don't have to live a lie. With all my faults, imperfections, and insufficiencies, I am made perfect in Him. Me = Perfection? Isn't that a crazy thought?!

One of my absolute favorite songs is a song that is on the playlist for this blog and I hope that you have heard and enjoyed it. It is entitled "Free To Be Me" by Francesca Battistelli. The chorus is as follows:

‘Cause I got a couple dents in my fender
Got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
On my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see
I'm free to be me

The truth is that no matter how hard I might try to be perfect and to make everyone happy and to be what my husband or my parents or my friends want me to be, I will always fall short. Perfection is indeed my enemy. Thankfully, I am free to be me--imperfections, inconsistencies and all!
