High Falls

A few days ago, my fabulous friend Sam and I decided to explore a state park that's close to my house. We drove to the park and paid $5 to park...did you catch that?? $5! Okay, so maybe that's not a lot, but to a couple girls on a budget looking for a picnic spot, it was a bit ridiculous. It's pretty much on an honor system: there are collection boxes with envelopes and tags for your car. To be honest, it was pretty tempting not to fool with it since we knew we'd only be there for a few minutes, but we're good girls so we did what we were supposed to do. Not to mention, I know there are expenses involved in keeping the state park beautiful so I guess it's the least we could do (but we did find out that you can park for free on Wednesdays)! The above picture was the view from our shady picnic spot :-) It was super hot so we didn't stay long, but we did find out the prices for canoeing/kayaking (I've always wanted to do that) so I think we'll take a Wednesday and have some water fun...she just better not tip me over! You hear that, Samurai?!
We originally planned to go for a picnic and then a hike on some of the almost five miles of trails but, because of the heat (and the thunder), we opted to just picnic and go. We drove around and saw that there's a public pool (that wasn't too busy...then again, there was thunder) and a miniature golf course. Everything was so inexpensive (except the stinking parking)! I wonder what other little gems are hiding out in our area!?!
