Task Box Wish List

Task boxes are boxes/containers that hold all materials needed to complete a given task. They encourage individuals with special needs to complete an assigned job independently by providing a clear beginning and end to the activity as well as appropriate instructions for each student (paired with prompting as needed). I am using this approach for 30 minutes of the classroom schedule each day with my students. Keep in mind that next year I will have four very different groups of students in one classroom, so I need to make a TON of these task boxes so that I will be prepared for each student to start at his/her level and grow throughout the year. So, what does that mean for me? It means that I'll need to find or purchase lots of small, random items. I was praying about how to do this with the limited income situation that we are currently in (keep praying for Brad to find a job, okay?) and realized that some of my family/friends might be sitting on a task box goldmine! This brings me to the reason for the note: IF (and only if) you have some of these items lying around your house and you're not using them, please consider donating to the cause. My students and I truly appreciate anything that you can give. It may seem like something insignificant to you, but it can mean a great deal to me and will help my students learn vital skills for employment and independent living.

Shoe boxes/tupperware/containers/sealable bags:anything that can be used to contain items
pencil-top erasers
sandwich-sized bags
small cups
envelopes
posters (doesn't matter what they say as long as it's school-appropriate)
flashlights
flashlight batteries
decks of playing cards (different designs)
beads
letter stencils
coupons (expired ones are perfect)
plastic easter eggs
small packs of salt, pepper, creamer
coffee stirrers
various sized buttons
plastic silverware
8 pk crayons in boxes
Different-sized washers
nuts/bolts (2 sizes of each)
wrapping paper
boxes to wrap
ice trays
egg cartons
Anything that can be sorted/categorized by shape, size, type, etc...
Old pieces to games (can be repurposed into task boxes or to make new social skills/learning games)

We will be making a ton of these work boxes using whatever I can find, so use your imagination while you're spring cleaning and see if there's anything that you have that could be repurposed in our classroom. I'm truly grateful for anything that you can provide!

This is a task box that I could purchase: for only $125.99! Or I could make something that helps the kids practice the same skill for a few bucks...or it could be free if you have pencils and sandwich bags to donate!

This task box is similar to one that I would make. It is an independent sorting activity.
