Winter Guard...love it! Floor painting...hate it. Well, that may be a bit harsh, but several wonderful people and I just spent the better part of a week preparing and painting the floor. It turned out beautifully, I think, but it was a ridiculous mess in the making! It got to the point that I wasn't even excited about it anymore. As you can tell from the picture above, every moment was spent on this floor: there wasn't even any time to change! (Okay, the truth is that I had just left Christmas with my fabulous in-laws and we were going to go to Wal-Mart so I waited to put my nasty paint clothes on until we came back and decided to make some minor changes before we left).
This amazing floor was designed and sketched by one of our wonderful percussion students, Sam. She spent a great portion of her break at school sketching and painting. Another student, Brandy, came daily to help out. Jessica was also there every moment that she was not at work: forget the above picture, she is truly a portrait of dedication. She gets no compensation, no recognition, and no applause, but she is there doing 'the dirty work' all the time. Keith, our percussion instructor, came daily as well and painted more shades of pink than I think he ever wanted to see in his life. Chad came for moral support on Wednesday and helped paint this evening...he's a careful painter: he didnt get any paint on his clothes at all, but I could pretty much walk by the floor and get covered. :-) David, the percussion assistant painted for a day (which was a huge help and completely unanticipated: another person giving of his own time to help a less-than-appreciative group of kids), also Matthew who is always amazing and Camera, a dedicated band member (drum major, sax player, and winter guard girl) put in many hours of painting and re-painting. Without all of these people, this would have been impossible. But, as Sam's book encouraged us all: I'm possible (and so was the floor)!
And it looks AWESOME!!!!! Good job, y'all!
