So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
I've read/heard this scripture hundreds of times. Whatever I do, huh? In the past, I've unknowingly considered my "whatever" to be the "Jesus" things or the big things in life. I would keep nursery for the glory of God, sing in Crucified for the glory of God, teach kids for His glory. Intellectually, when I read this, I understand it says ALL. I guess this demonstrates the difference in hearing/understanding and really letting it sink in. See, if I had taught a Bible Study that included this verse, I would have said "Even when you make your bed, drive your car, or walk through the grocery store, you can and should be doing it for His glory." And I would have thought that I was doing this...crazy how we can fool ourselves, or believes Satan's attempts to keep us down, huh?
It hit me like the flip of a switch yesterday. I can praise God when I'm scrubbing the toilet! I can be thankful to God when I'm organizing my closet (thanks, Sam, for helping with that monster task)! Once I realized that it's not just okay, but appropriate and good for me to do these things, I decided to take a look at a commentary to really get a grasp on "glorify". Barnes' Notes says to do this is to act in all things as to honor Him and to lead others by example to praise Him and to embrace His gospel. People's NT says we are to do things with Thanksgiving and not creating a stumbling-block for others. Matthew Henry's speaks of doing what would please and honor Him. God's revelation to me says "Praise Me, thank Me, look to Me, give Me the credit, do what I tell you to and smile while you're doing it".
Maybe...just maybe...this will change my attitude toward laundry. That's my prayer anyway :-)
This is an incredible word!! I'm so glad I found it before my own input today!!!! Love you!!
