H1N1, NE1?

A couple weeks ago, we had a confirmed case of H1N1 in my school system. While you never want a sickness that 'close to home', I guess I always figured that it would make it's way throughout the nation, so I was not too alarmed. After all, what can you do other than take normal necessary precautions? The school system installed antibacterial foam dispensers throughout the school and is doing their best to educate students regarding how to cough (old schoolers, did you know you're not supposed to cover your mouth with your hands? That's right, you germ-passers!! Gone are the days of coughing into your hand and then touching a door handle)!

But, the truth of the matter is that germs spread. No matter what you do, you cannot kill all germs! I mean, even spraying something directly with Lysol will only kill like 99%...so that 1% is still there, ready to pounce! Okay, that's a bit dramatic. My point is that the school system can only do so much: kids are still sitting in class with other kids, drinking after them, holding hands, sharing materials, and who knows (or wants to know) what else! Sickness is now running rampant throughout the school. Kids are home with flu-like symptoms and/or strep throat. And the ones that are at school are like walking zombies (moreso than usual for high school kids)! I personally have been battling what I think/hope is just sinus issues. It's just so ironic that just after H1N1 makes its way to our humble little town and we take extra precautions, we all get sick!

Moral of the little story above: Cough into your elbow and wash your hands, but don't stress--if you're going to get sick, you're going to get sick!
